Superintendent's Message: Mental Health Week in PRSD Schools

As spring blossoms around us, so too does an important opportunity to focus on the well-being of our students, staff, and families. Mental Health Week, taking place from May 5th to 9th, serves as a vital reminder of the significance of nurturing our mental health and fostering supportive environments within our schools.
At the Peace River School Division, we firmly believe that mental health is integral to overall well-being and professional and academic success. A positive and supportive school climate allows our students to thrive, learn, and reach their full potential. It empowers our staff to effectively guide and inspire, and strengthens the bonds within our entire school community.
This Mental Health Week, we encourage everyone to actively participate in raising awareness and showing their support. We are excited to highlight two special days:
- Wednesday, May 7th, is "Hats On! for Mental Health Day." We invite all students and staff to wear their favourite hat as a fun and visible way to spark conversations about mental health and to reduce stigma. It's a simple gesture that can make a big difference in showing solidarity and support.
- Friday, May 9th, is "Wear Green for Mental Health Day." Let's come together by wearing green, the colour associated with mental health awareness. This collective display will demonstrate our commitment to creating caring and compassionate school communities where everyone feels valued and supported.
Throughout Mental Health Week, our schools will be engaging in various activities and initiatives aimed at promoting positive mental health and overall well-being. We encourage you to connect with your child's school to learn more about what they have planned and how you can participate.
Remember, fostering positive mental health is a year-round commitment. Let us continue to work together to create school environments where open conversations about mental health are encouraged, where resources are readily available, and where every individual feels supported and empowered.
Thank you for your ongoing dedication to the well-being of our entire Peace River School Division community.
