2025 School Board Elections

Election Day is October 20, 2025

Become a Trustee for PRSD this Year!

Becoming a school board trustee for Peace River School Division is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on education and community development. Trustees are advocates for students, stewards of public funds, and vital connections between the school division and the community. Elected every four years under the Education Act and the Local Authorities Election Act, trustees are entrusted with governance responsibilities that ensure students receive a high-quality education reflecting local values and needs.

Trustees work collectively as part of a school board to set the strategic direction for the division. They plan long-term priorities, approve budgets, and evaluate the superintendent's performance to ensure effective management of operations. Trustees develop policies that shape everything from student well-being to fiscal oversight, promoting public education as a cornerstone of democracy. Their role extends to advocating for resources and engaging with the community to ensure local voices are heard in decision-making.

PRSD trustees participate in monthly board and committee meetings, often serving on standing committees such as Policy Development and Review and Advocacy, or representing the board in provincial organizations like the Alberta School Boards Association and the Public School Boards' Association of Alberta. Trustees may also contribute to specific projects through ad hoc committees formed for defined purposes.

As a governance role, educational stewardship is rooted in accountability and collaboration. Trustees champion inclusivity, equity, and excellence in education while ensuring resources are responsibly allocated. Serving as a trustee allows individuals to influence policies and priorities that shape the future of education in northwest Alberta.

If you are passionate about education and community leadership, consider running for trustee in the upcoming election. Join PRSD in fostering a thriving, equitable education system that supports every student’s success. Together, let’s create a stronger future for our schools and community.
