You Said, We Heard: Vaping - Part 1
What is You Said, We Heard?
Every year, the Peace River School Division invites upper elementary, Jr. High and Sr. High students to meet with the Superintendent and Board of Trustees to talk about what is important to them when it comes to education. Over the next several weeks we are going to share some of the things students highlighted and some of the ways the PRSD is responding to these topics of discussion.
Direct from our Students
Today we are talking about students vaping on school property. During the discussion the Board of Trustees had with students, students voiced an overall acceptance and even a welcoming attitude toward the installation of vape detectors in their schools. Many students expressed the idea that while we cannot always stop students from vaping, we can prevent them from vaping inside the school. Also important to note is that some students expressed that they did not consider vaping to be an issue in their schools.
In response, the PRSD acknowledges the important role vape detectors play in maintaining a welcoming and caring school environment. Principals and school stall continue to monitor all areas within the school and continue to work with students on the health impacts of vaping. As per Administrative Procedure (AP) 356, students found vaping inside our schools are receiving appropriate consequences.
