The Peace River School Division’s Edwin Parr Nominee, Kaitlin Saunderson, was celebrated once more at the Alberta School Boards Association Zone 1 meeting, held September 20 at the Chateau Nova in Peace River. Kaitlin was one of six nominees from Zone 1.

The ASBA Edwin Parr Teacher Awards recognize excellent first-year teachers across the province. Nominees are chosen from first-year Kindergarten to Grade 12 teachers or educators who exemplify outstanding teaching performance.

For Kaitlin, her own introduction to a career in education came early in life as her own mother, Denise Saunderson, was also a teacher. Following the completion of her secondary school education, Kaitlin went on to graduate from Mount Royal University in 2022. From there she moved to Fairview to take on her first teaching position at E.E. Oliver Elementary School as a Grade 2 teacher.

“At E.E. Oliver Kaitlin is respected by staff and parents for her collaborative approach to teaching and desire to continually learn through various professional development opportunities,” said Superintendent Adam Murray.

“The culture inside of Kaitlin’s classroom is not only welcoming, but one that promotes learning and kindness. In fact, anyone who steps inside of Kaitlin’s classroom is greeted quickly by happy young learners, engaged in their education and excited to share their new knowledge with their classroom guests.”

Outside of the classroom, and in her spare time, Kaitlin can often be found cheering on her students at hockey games and dance recitals. This is just part of the way that Kaitlin demonstrates a genuine empathy for the students in her care, and a passion for their academic success.

“It’s no doubt that Kaitlin will have a lasting and positive impact on her students,” said Murray.

Congratulations Kaitlin on this nomination.
