Regular Board Meeting Highlights - June 9, 2022
Carry Out Business Over Summer
The Board has authorized PRSD Executives to carry out Board business during the summer months. In accordance with policy, Executives will summarize actions taken at the August Regular Board Meeting.
Purchase of Busses
Rhonda Freeman, Secretary Treasurer, provided the Board with information on the upcoming purchase of school busses. The Board approved the purchase of three, 52 passenger busses and four, 70 passenger busses.
Special Meeting of the Board June 29, 2022
The Board approved to gather for a Special Board Meeting on June 29, 2022, for the naming of the new Manning School Project and to discuss May’s financial statements.
Board Room Flag Raising
Rhonda Freeman, Secretary Treasurer, provided the Board with an update on the Treaty 8 flag and the Métis flag raising ceremony in the Central Office boardroom. Provided it works for the Treaty 8 community, the ceremony is tentatively scheduled to happen this August.
Advocacy
The Board has committed to continuing to advocate for the following items: Wrap around services and mental health support in all schools, projects on the PRSD Capital Plan and PRSD’s funding challenges. To further enhance this advocacy, the Board will be meeting with MLA Dan Williams to discuss these topics.
Horizon’s Summit
David Smith, Safety and Wellness Coordinator, presented information to the Board about the Horizon’s Summit, a student leadership event for grades 7-10 with the Holy Family Catholic School Division & Alberta Health Services. Student engagement, leadership and involvement are emphasized, and this event fits within Peace River School Division’s student goals. The Board approved this event for the upcoming school year.
Policy 19 – Appendix – Student Conduct
The Board passed the third reading for Policy 19 - Appendix - Student Code of Conduct.
Board Holds 2022-2023 Organizational Meeting
The Peace River School Division (PRSD) Board of Trustees held its organizational meeting on Thursday, June 9, 2022,
where both Delainah Walker and Crystal Owens were elected for the roles as Board Chair and Vice-Chair respectively. A media release will be available in the upcoming days ahead.
