Truth & Reconciliation
The Board of Trustees moved to designate September 30, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, as a non-operational day throughout the Division when it falls on a school day, in perpetuity. Truth and Reconciliation Week in the Division will be celebrated by schools this year on September 23 to 27, 2024.
Capital Plan
The PRSD Board of Trustees have decided to amend their most current capital plan. When the 2025-2028 plan was created in March of this year, the Peace River School Division had partnered with Grande Prairie and District Catholic Schools on a solution for schools in Fairview. However, following the transfer of St. Thomas More Catholic School from GPCSD to Holy Family Catholic Regional Division, all of the previous partnerships and plans are no longer relevant for the current reality of what is available to students in Fairview.
As a result, the Board of Trustees agreed to remove Fairview from their capital plan, and instead strike a Board committee to begin the investigative work required to determine what the Division’s next steps should be for Fairview and area.
The Board’s 2025-2028 capital plan now lists the Board’s top priority as a value-scoping session in Peace River to explore the best options for grade configuration, educational programs, community needs, and possible partnerships that might be formed. The second priority listed on the capital plan is the modernization of Worsley Central School.
Superintendent Resignation
Upon official receipt of Superintendent Adam Murray’s resignation, the Board of Trustees have agreed to begin the process to hire a new Superintendent by hiring a consultant to conduct a Superintendent search.
Policies
The Board approved the third reading of the amendments to Policy 19: Welcoming, Caring, Respectful, and Safe Learning Environment. These amendments were made to bring the phrasing of Policy 19 in line with the Board’s newest policy, Policy 20: Anti-Racism Policy.
The Board then held preliminary discussions on Policy 7 specific to Trustee remuneration.
