Holly Crumpton has spent her twenty-year career with the Peace River School Division building foundationally important relationships between the PRSD and the Indigenous communities connected to our schools. At the recent Peace River Pow Wow, that work was recognized in a meaningful way.

The Peace River Aboriginal Interagency Committee honoured Ms. Crumpton after the Eagle Feather Ceremony for graduates, presenting her with a Star Blanket and an Eagle Feather. Holly shared that she was completely surprised by the recognition, and described herself as both humbled and honoured to receive such beautiful and meaningful gifts. After seven years as PRSD's Indigenous Education Program Coordinator, Ms. Crumpton will be returning to Peace River High School as a classroom teacher.

The Significance of the Star Blanket

The Star Blanket is a powerful emblem of respect, often given as a gift to mark important life events and milestones. During a ceremony, the recipient is wrapped in the Star Blanket as a symbol of honour and positive acknowledgement of their work and achievements.

The Significance of the Eagle Feather

To be given an Eagle Feather is considered a mark of the highest honour by many First Nations communities.
