Outreach Programs

The Peace River School Division's Outreach programs provide education to students who require something different from what the traditional school setting can offer. Outreach programs support the educational, psychological, social and employability needs of our students. Above anything else, the primary goal of outreach programs is to help students obtain a high school diploma or equivalent in an alternative setting.

Our Programs

PRSD offers two Outreach Programs: Peace Regional Outreach Campus and Fairview and Area Learning Store. Students who attend either of these Outreach programs are guaranteed access to certificated teachers who guide students through the Alberta Education Program of Study, at the students' individual pace.

Each student's program structure is planned with their teacher with the goal of meeting the educational needs of the student. The plan addresses attendance, punctuality, and achievement standards, while accommodating the needs of the student.

Mission

  • To provide an alternate learning environment for students for whom the mainstream school setting has not been effective
  • To assist youth in achieving positive personal growth
  • To enable youth at risk of dropping out to remain connected with a learning/educational environment
  • To facilitate the re-entry into mainstream schooling for those young people who desire it
  • To provide youth with skills related to career exploration, communication, community awareness, and self awareness to promote increased self-esteem and employability

Peace Regional Outreach Campus

The Peace Regional Outreach Campus opened its doors for the first time in the 19940-1995 school year, serving teen moms and other at-risk students in the Peace River area. Then, in 1996, community agencies partnered with Peace Outreach to offer a wider youth support network. This included counsellors, an Indigenous liaison worker, office personnel, transportation, and supporting programming materials. Today, Peace Outreach is proud to serve a wide variety of students, including at-risk students and students who simply require a more flexible schedule to accommodate other aspects of life such as employment or athletic schedules.

Peace Outreach also welcomes adult students who are working toward achieving their high school equivalency.

**Peace Outreach's current location and student demand has made it necessary for the Peace River School Division (PRSD) to limit enrolment at Peace Outreach to PRSD students. In order to attend Peace Outreach, you must be registered with the PRSD prior to the end of September during the current school year. This does not apply to adult students.**

Fairview and Area Learning Store

The Fairview and Area Learning Store (FALS) is an outreach school serving between 50 and 100 Fairview and surrounding area students per year. We offer a full high school program with a variety of optional courses delivered either in print or online on a timetable of your choosing. Best of all, there are never course conflicts because you can choose what to take, when to take it, and when to complete it!

Students receive one-on-one education, post-secondary, and career counseling to develop a plan tailored to meet each individual's unique needs and aspirations in a caring, friendly, and supportive educational environment. Personal counseling is available, as well.

We're open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (no classes on Fridays after 2:23 p.m.), so drop by and let's talk about your education and your future.
