New Transportation Walk Distance for K-6 Students

February 24, 2025 - Effective September 1, 2025, the walk distances for students in Kindergarten through Grade 6 who are riding Peace River School Division buses will increase from 1.0 km to 1.6 km as per the proposed new Alberta Government regulations. There is no change to the 2.0 km walk distance for students in Grades 7 to 12.
In the past, the PRSD offered transportation to and from school to K-6 students living 1.0 km or more from their designated school building. However, a recent change to these guidelines means the PRSD must also change how we offer transportation services. The PRSD will no longer be able to provide transportation for students who live between 1.0 km and 1.6 km of their school building, free of charge. Students in K-6 who live less than 1.6 km from their school may apply for busing, and if approved, will need to purchase a bus pass.
The PRSD acknowledges this change will be unwelcome news to some families. The reality is that the current funding situation is such that the PRSD cannot responsibly continue to offer this expanded service without government funding.
