UPDATE - October 1, 2020 - Please view the September 30, 2020 letter from Alberta Health Services here
September 21, 2020
Springfield Elementary School was notified on the evening of September 20, 2020 by Alberta Health Services (AHS) that they have identified two cases of Covid-19 at the school. Earlier today, the school sent out a letter from Alberta Health Services to all parents. Out of respect to these individuals and in accordance with Alberta Health Services guidelines and FOIP guidelines, we cannot disclose personal details. Our thoughts are with these individuals and we wish them a speedy recovery.
Please be aware AHS is responsible for contact tracing which means identifying and notifying all who have had close contact with the cases. Public Health and the school are working closely together to ensure timely and accurate contact tracing. If you have not been contacted, then your child is not considered a close contact and can attend school as usual while following all public health guidance.
We remind parents/guardians of students, as well as any staff/visitors/volunteers to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19.The AHS daily checklist can be found here where it is posted on the Peace River School Division’s Covid-19 information page. Please remember to complete the checklist each day prior to attending school. As a reminder, if you/your child has any of the symptoms of illness listed on the Alberta Health daily checklist, please fill out the online AHS COVID-19 self-assessment or call Health Link at 811 and stay home/keep your child at home.
The health, safety and well-being of our school community is our highest priority and we are working closely with Alberta Health Services and our custodial staff to ensure all spaces are cleaned and additional steps are taken. Our custodial staff are performing enhanced cleaning protocols that include vigorous cleaning in the areas where the individual was present, all high touch areas, and using an Electrostatic Disinfecting Machine.
We understand this news can be distressing for your child and your family and assure you that we will continue to take all steps necessary to ensure the well-being of our school community while following the guidance provided by AHS. Thank you for your part in keeping our school community safe. If you have any questions, please call the school at 780-624-2143. We will continue to provide additional information to our parents and guardians as it is available.
