Departmental Presentation – Safety, Wellness and Nutrition
Peace River School Division’s (PRSD) Safety and Wellness Coordinator David Smith provided a brief overview of all programs/plans/training/inspections that fall under the Safety, Wellness and Nutrition umbrella. He also reviewed the impact changes in the OH & S Act, Regulations and Code will have on PRSD. A highlight of his presentation was the establishment of the Wellness Initiative in PRSD; the goal for this initiative is to promote sustainable Healthy School Communities using a Comprehensive School Health approach. Wellness Champions work in the school community to foster healthy eating, active living, and a positive environment. They identify wellness needs, connect people to resources, along with setting and achieving wellness goals.
