Rededication for Menno Simons Community School

Rededication for Menno Simons Community School

On Friday, June 7, 2019, Peace River School Division (PRSD) celebrated the Rededication of Menno Simons Community School (MSCS).

The Rededication ceremony began at 1:00 pm in the bright new gymnasium of Menno Simons Community School in Cleardale, AB.  In the company of students, staff, parents, friends, community members and special guests, the ceremony was emceed by Senior High students, Saffron Lewis and Zacchaeus Janzen, and included the singing of O Canada by the Grade 1, 2 and 3 students, led by a junior high student on piano.

Greetings from Government officials included a written message from Honourable Chris Warkentin, MP of Grande Prairie-Mackenzie.  Honourable Prasad Panda, Minister of Infrastructure and Honourable Todd Loewen, MLA for Central Peace-Notley who were both in attendance gave greetings and presented MSCS Principal, Kathy Roul with a bronze plaque commemorating the modernization project.  They also participated in the traditional ribbon cutting to conclude the event.  Other partnering organizations such as Clear Hills County, Cleardale Ag Society, Bird Construction and Workun Garrick Partnership offered greetings.   PRSD Board Chair Darren Kuester recognized Clear Hills County for their financial support, and Vice Chair Delainah Velichka paid recognition to Cleardale Ag Society for their input and contributions to the project.

Cakes created by MSCS student, Aimee Wolfe, snacks and refreshments by Nettie and Lisa Giesbrecht and some cookies baked by the senior high Foods class were offered at the conclusion of the ceremony while junior and senior high students offered guided facility tours.

The successful completion of this project would not have been possible without the many community members and organizations who contributed countless hours in a variety of ways to ensure that this facility would meet the needs of students and the community.  With the addition of a brand new gymnasium/community hall and industrial grade, food-safe kitchen, as well as many many other refreshing renovations and upgrades throughout the school, this top of the line design-build project will be a central hub in the Cleardale community for generations to come.

"There is no greater resource in this community - in this province than these students." ~Kathy Roul, Principal of Menno Simons Community School
