2019-2020 PRSD Calendar Approved

2019-2020 PRSD Calendar Approved

During the March 14, 2019 regular board meeting, the Peace River School Division (PRSD) board of trustees approved the 2019-2020 School Calendar

Highlights of the calendar include the first day of school for students being September 3, 2019, Christmas Break to run from December 23, 2019 to January 3, 2020 and Spring Break that will run from March 23, 2020 to March 27, 2020.  The last day of classes for grades K-9 students will be June 25, 2020 while the last day for grade 10-12 students is June 26, 2020.

The committee proposed the positioning of Spring Break because Easter falls later in the 2019-2020 school year.  The majority of feedback received from families, staff and community members expressed satisfaction with the draft calendar as proposed by PRSD’s Calendar Committee and a preference to a Spring Break.

Several respondents requested that the ATA Professional Development Day be scheduled for November 1, 2019.  Although this request was considered we could not schedule it on this date as there are Diploma exams scheduled on November 1, 2019.

The calendar was open for feedback from school communities between December 5, 2018 and February 8, 2019 with a total of 83 responses received.  Following consultations with school communities through email, social media, staff based and School Council meetings, the input was reviewed by the PRSD School Calendar Committee and presented to the board of trustees for approval.

This year’s PRSD School Calendar Committee included representation of a teacher, principals, management and representatives from Holy Family Catholic Regional Division, Consiel scolaire du Nord-Quest and Grande Prairie Catholic School District.  The committee followed “Guiding Principles” while developing the school calendar that are based on the preferences and input of staff, parents and community members.

PRSD thanks the Calendar Committee, school communities and partnering school divisions for their contributions, partnership and input.
