Fairview school bus driver selected for PRSD's Transportation Award of Excellence

August 28, 2018 –Peace River School Division congratulates Debbie Morrison, Fairview school bus driver for being selected as PRSD’s 2018 Transportation Award of Excellence recipient. The annual award celebrates the dedication and commitment of transportation staff.
Debbie began working for PRSD as a spare school bus driver in 2007 and became the full time driver for route 81 in Fairview in 2008. Debbie also provides support and mentorship to new school bus drivers as a PRSD School Bus Driver Trainer and takes the initiative to coordinate drivers for school field trips in Fairview.
“I feel very humbled to be recognized in this way” says Debbie. “Being a school bus driver is very rewarding and I love my job. I love seeing the kids every day and the[BV1] kids on my bus and their families are like my extended family. Every day is a new day, you see many beautiful and different sights when your office is the windshield.”
Debbie was presented with the award during a special ceremony with fellow school bus driver colleagues and transportation management staff at the annual PRSD Transportation and Support Services start-up meeting held today. Superintendent Paul Bennett and Support Services Director John Przybylski presented Debbie with the award and John shared commentary from nominations received from the public regarding Debbie’s contributions as a professional school bus driver.
Comments from public nominations include; “We have the best driver! Love her and her always positive attitude”, “My children want to travel on Mrs. Morrison’s bus. Having a positive experience to start the morning off is excellent for student success and makes me very happy as a parent of Peace River School Division”, “She goes above and beyond for student safety”, “Debbie shows a positive, helpful and caring attitude by always smiling, being upbeat and communicating on time. She always takes time for her bus students and willing to try different things to help parents be comfortable and students be happy in their pursuits.”
During the month of June, the PRSD Transportation Department asked the public to weigh in on who they felt was deserving of the award through online submissions. A total of 16 nominations were received with Debbie being the employee with the highest amount of nominations received.
“School bus drivers are very important members of our school division family and play a very important role in the education system” says Superintendent Paul Bennett. “They serve students, families, schools and help to create safe communities. On behalf of the board, I am thrilled to congratulate Debbie for receiving this important award and thank her for her important contributions to student learning, safety, well-being and success.”
