PRSD supports 2016 Pride Parade
Peace River School Division is proud to be a part of and support the 2016 Peace River Pride Parade and all it represents - inclusion, equality, respect and the acceptance of all. The event takes place tomorrow, June 11, 2016 in Peace River.
“Last year Peace River School Division was part of the parade and we really thought it was a great experience for everyone” says Board Chair Darren Kuester. “The event aligns well with some of the core values of PRSD in celebrating diversity, being inclusive and creating safe and caring learning environments for everyone, which definitely extends to the community as well.” Kuester adds that “we received lots of positive feedback after participating in the parade last year that this was an easy decision.”
A student from Peace River High School who helped to form the Gay Straight Alliance at the school will deliver messages during the formal part of the event. In addition, PRSD trustee Louise Woroniuk will bring greetings from the board of trustees and Peace River High School's Principal Mark Owens and Taylor Hanley, Springfield Elementary School educator are serving as Grand Marshals and PRSD will also have a vehicle in the parade. This year’s Pride event is dedicated to the Gay Straight Alliance of the Peace River Region and will begin with the parade at noon, followed by a BBQ and celebration at Riverfront Park.
“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human spirit than it’s opposite.” - Nelson Mandela
